WWE dropped its old initials after losing a court fight to the panda charity.
The company did not choose the name. In 2002 it lost a long court fight to a group that had held the initials WWF for decades and was ordered to drop them. That group was the World Wide Fund for Nature, the conservation charity with the panda logo. Beaten by the pandas, the wrestlers became WWE.
