Warby Parker is named after two characters plucked from Jack Kerouac’s private journals.
Four Wharton MBA students spent months rejecting thousands of names for their 2010 online eyewear startup, wanting something literary. They found it in Kerouac’s journals, where two early characters were called Warby Pepper and Zagg Parker. They took a piece from each.
