Vine turned a constraint into an art form.
Dom Hofmann, Rus Yusupov and Colin Kroll built it in 2012, around a rule that every video ran six seconds and looped. Twitter bought it for $30 million before it had even launched. A generation of creators mastered the loop, and in 2016 Twitter shut Vine down. ByteDance turned the same kind of short video into TikTok.
