TSMC’s founder went into chips because Ford would not add a dollar a month.
In 1955 Morris Chang was choosing between $479 a month from Ford and $480 from Sylvania’s small semiconductor division. He asked Ford to match Sylvania. Ford refused, and he took the Sylvania job. In 1987 he founded TSMC, worth more than $2 trillion in September 2026.
