Tom Ford made a film before he would make women’s clothes.
After leaving Gucci in 2004 he vowed that women’s fashion would wait until he had made his first movie. Hollywood sent him only dubious offers, and when his investors’ money vanished in the market crash he paid the $7 million for A Single Man himself. Shot in 21 days, it earned Colin Firth his first Oscar nomination. The first women’s collection followed in September 2010.
