Briton Hadden edited Time for four and a half of its first six years and invented its style. He died, most likely of an infection, on February 27, 1929, six years to the day after the first issue went to press. Henry Luce, his partner since prep school, went on to give more than 300 speeches over 38 years and mentioned him in four.
