Tim Hortons’ founder’s widow sold her share in 1975, then sued to get it back.
Tim Horton, a Maple Leafs star, died in a car crash in 1974, leaving his widow, Lori, 49.5 percent of the chain. In 1975 his partner, Ron Joyce, a former police officer, bought her out. She sued in 1987, saying she had been mentally incompetent when she sold, and lost. In 2014 Burger King bought the chain for $11.4 billion.
