Taco Bell’s founder started out selling hamburgers.
In 1948, Glen Bell opened a hamburger stand in San Bernardino, where the McDonald brothers were inventing fast food. Across the street, a Mexican restaurant taught him to make tacos. He opened the first Taco Bell in 1962. In 1978, PepsiCo bought his chain of 868 restaurants for about $125 million.
