Swiffer came from P&G watching how people actually clean.
In the 1990s, P&G and the design firm Continuum filmed people cleaning their floors. The footage showed that mopping mostly pushed dirty water around, that people hated wringing out filthy mops, and that most floor dirt is dust. So the team built a swivel sweeper with a disposable, dust-grabbing pad and no bucket.
