Spotify’s name is a word nobody actually meant to say.
Founders Daniel Ek and Martin Lorentzon were shouting possible names between two rooms in 2006 when Ek misheard one Lorentzon called out and typed “Spotify” into Google. It returned zero hits, and they registered the name within minutes.
