Segway had Steve Jobs and Jeff Bezos convinced it would change the world.
Steve Jobs and Jeff Bezos raved about it after seeing early prototypes. Dean Kamen unveiled it in 2001 with a factory leased to turn out 6,000 a week, expecting to sell 50,000 in its first thirteen months. Six years on it had sold 30,000. Kamen had wanted Tom Cruise riding one in Minority Report, and got Paul Blart, a comedy mall cop.
