Price Club charged shoppers a fee just to walk through its doors.
A San Diego lawyer named Sol Price opened the first membership warehouse club in 1976. Sam Walton admitted in print that he copied it for Sam’s Club. Jim Sinegal learned it under Price, then built Costco. In 1993 Price Club merged with Costco, and the name that survived was Costco’s.
