Pop Mart started out reselling a Japanese blind-box doll it did not own.
The doll was Sonny Angel, a cherub sold in sealed boxes and the Beijing shop’s best seller, until its maker, Dreams, cut Pop Mart off in 2015. Wang Ning asked on Weibo what else fans collected, and over half answered Molly. He signed her Hong Kong designer, and in 2025 a later signing, Labubu, made Wang China’s 10th-richest person.
