Pepsi was originally called Brad’s Drink.
In 1893, pharmacist Caleb Bradham mixed the drink in his North Carolina drugstore and named it after himself. He renamed it Pepsi-Cola in 1898, for kola nuts and, depending on who tells it, pepsin or dyspepsia. He claimed it aided digestion. The drink a pharmacist named for himself now anchors PepsiCo, which brings in around $94 billion a year.
