Omega’s Speedmaster was first on the Moon only because Neil Armstrong left his behind.
On Apollo 11, in July 1969, a timer in the lunar module had failed, so Armstrong kept his watch inside as a backup, and Buzz Aldrin wore his out onto the surface. The watches were ordinary store-bought Omegas. Aldrin later sent his to the Smithsonian, and the packages arrived without it. It has never been found.
