Old Navy is reportedly named after a Parisian bar.
Gap CEO Mickey Drexler created it in 1994 as a lower-price sister brand, and it now brings in roughly $8.7 billion a year, more than Gap itself. Hunting for a name, Drexler reportedly spotted the “Old Navy” sign on a bar in Paris’s Saint-Germain. Gap’s lawyers bought the name from the bar’s owner.
