Nivea spent 52 years buying back its own name in the countries that seized it.
When the Second World War ended, the countries that had fought Germany seized Nivea as enemy property and sold it, so that each had its own Nivea Creme, with its own recipe. Beiersdorf bought the name back one country at a time, sometimes paying more than seemed reasonable. The last came in 1997, from Pollena-Lechia in Poland.
