Moncler’s first down jackets were made for its own factory workers.
In 1954 Moncler, a two-year-old maker of sleeping bags and tents near Grenoble, made its first down jackets for the workers in its small mountain factory, who wore them over their overalls. The mountaineer Lionel Terray saw what they could do, and that same year Moncler jackets went up K2 with the Italian expedition that first climbed it.
