Moleskine sells a notebook that was discontinued for years.
The black notebooks were used by Chatwin and Hemingway — or so the branding implies. The last maker, in Tours, France, closed around 1986. In 1995 the translator Maria Sebregondi read Bruce Chatwin’s lament for the notebook and commissioned a new maker in 1997. In 2016 D’Ieteren bought Moleskine in a deal that valued it at about €506 million.
