Maserati was bought in 1937 by a man who wanted its spark plugs.
Adolfo Orsi, a Modena industrialist whose father had collected scrap metal, bought the brothers’ firm on 1 May 1937, and with it their spark-plug factory. He kept the racing cars for their famous name. Twenty years later a Maserati 250F carried Juan Manuel Fangio to his fifth world title, while the works behind it made machine tools.
