Logitech is named after software, by founders who thought mice were beneath them.
Daniel Borel and Pierluigi Zappacosta spent three years building a Swiss word processor that their employer killed in 1981, one month before launch. That October they founded a company in a farm building in a village called Apples, and named it after logiciel, the French for software, anyway. A mouse paid the bills, and in 2008 Logitech shipped its billionth.
