Lindt chocolate made by the Lindt family was ruled “not the original Lindt chocolate”.
Rodolphe Lindt sold his Bern factory, his name and his recipe to the Sprüngli company in 1899. In 1906 his brother and cousin opened a Lindt factory of their own. After two decades in court, in 1927 the Bern appeals court made them print that line on every package, ad and letter.
