Kroger’s founder got a death threat for selling bread at half price.
In 1901 Barney Kroger became the first grocer in the country to bake his own bread, and cut a loaf to three cents when six was the going price. Rival bakeries said he would run them out of business. A letter to his home warned that unless he raised the price at once, he would be killed or shot. It was signed A. Citizen.
