Kia’s Brisa was killed by a dictator, then starred in a film about his crackdown.
The Brisa of 1974 was Kia’s first car, and it became more than half of Seoul’s taxi fleet. In 1981 the dictator Chun Doo-hwan forced the industry to consolidate, and Kia had to stop making passenger cars. In 2017 A Taxi Driver, a hit film about the Gwangju uprising his junta crushed in 1980, put a green Brisa at its heart.
