John Harvey Kellogg, who ran the Battle Creek Sanitarium, prescribed plain grain food and developed flakes as an easily digested meal for his patients. His brother Will saw a business. John saw a cure. In 2025 Mars bought Kellanova, the snack half of Kellogg’s, for about $35.9 billion.
