John Deere’s slogan was first written to sell snowmobiles.
In 1971 the company began building snowmobiles at its Horicon Works in Wisconsin, and it launched them with a new trademarked line, Nothing Runs Like a Deere. When the line was first drafted, it was thrown out as too silly to represent the company. The snowmobiles never made money. In the 1980s Deere sold the business to Polaris and kept the slogan.
