Hyundai’s founder stole his father’s cow money to run away to Seoul.
Chung Ju-yung grew up eating tree bark and grass roots through famine in colonial Korea. As a teenager he stole the 70 won his father got for a cow and fled to Seoul, but his father found him and talked him home. He left for good in 1933, and in 1946 he put the name Hyundai over a Seoul garage.
