Hellmann’s is sold as Best Foods west of the Rocky Mountains.
Postum bought Richard Hellmann’s company in 1927 and later merged it with Best Foods, the West Coast’s mayonnaise, keeping each name where it led. The recipes are almost identical, yet networks air a Hellmann’s ad on their eastern feeds and a Best Foods ad on the western ones. In Kansas, the border between the two names puts Colby and Goodland on the Best Foods side.
