Harman Kardon is named for an engineer who cashed out within three years.
Bernard Kardon, Bogen’s chief engineer, left with Sidney Harman to start their own firm in 1953. In 1956, tired of the long hours, he sold his share to Harman, who took the company public to pay for it. In 1962 Kardon filed a patent for a doll that cries until its wet diaper is changed.
