Grubhub was built to digitize a kitchen drawer.
In 2002, Chicago engineers Matt Maloney and Mike Evans noticed everyone kept a drawer full of paper menus. They drove the city knocking on restaurant doors, typing every menu into a database by hand. In 2021 Europe’s Just Eat Takeaway bought Grubhub for about $7.3 billion.
