Fila was bought in 2007 by the man who ran its Korean licensee.
Gene Yoon had talked the Italian company into making its shoes in Korea and in 1991 was asked to run its Korean branch. When Fila’s American owner, Cerberus, sold it, he raised $450 million and bought its trademarks, a deal South Korean media called a shrimp swallowing a whale. Four years later his company bought Titleist.
