Ferragamo won the “Oscar of fashion” in 1947 with a sandal made of fishing line.
The uppers of his Invisible sandal were transparent nylon line, so the straps seemed to vanish above an F-shaped wooden wedge. Neiman Marcus gave him its award that year beside Christian Dior, the first time it had gone to a shoemaker. Back in Florence he celebrated with his workers and gave each of them five kilos of sugar.
