Fanta was born from wartime shortages.
In 1940, during World War II, Coca-Cola’s German operation was running out of the syrup concentrate needed for Coke. So its chief, Max Keith, invented a new drink from leftover local ingredients — apple fiber and whey. The name came from the German word for fantasy.
