ElevenLabs exists because Poland dubs foreign films with one man reading every part.
He is called a lektor: one bored voice for every man, woman and child on screen, with the original soundtrack still audible underneath. Mati Staniszewski and Piotr Dąbkowski grew up with him in Warsaw, and in 2021, when Dąbkowski switched a film to Polish for his girlfriend, he was still there. The company they founded the next year to replace him is worth $22 billion.
