Doritos reportedly came from Disneyland’s trash.
In the early 1960s, Disneyland’s Casa de Fritos was binning day-old tortillas. A salesman from its supplier suggested frying the surplus into chips. Frito-Lay’s Arch West saw how well the chips sold and built Doritos out of them.
