Converse All Stars are a basketball shoe that basketball stopped wearing.
Designed in 1917 for basketball, All Stars were worn by most of the NBA through the 1960s. Then players moved to cushioned leather shoes from Nike and Adidas, while skaters, punks and rock musicians took up the flat rubber sole. In 2003 Nike, one of the brands that had pushed the shoe off the court, bought Converse for about $305 million.
