Coinbase’s founder dropped his first partner by email 48 hours before the partner’s flight.
Brian Armstrong met Ben Reeves, a British programmer who ran the bitcoin site Blockchain, on a bitcoin forum in 2012, and their pitch for a PayPal for bitcoin won a Y Combinator place within hours. Then they split over who should hold customers’ private keys. Armstrong went alone and built Coinbase, and Reeves built a wallet that leaves the keys with the owner.
