Gary Erickson couldn’t choke down his sixth PowerBar on a 175-mile bike ride, so he spent months making a bar he’d actually eat, and named it for his father, Clifford. He had handed a fifth of the company to his staff, so when he sold it to Mondelez in 2022, his employee-owners shared roughly $580 million.
