Christian Louboutin drew his first heels from a museum sign that banned them.
As a boy, Louboutin saw a sign at a Paris museum of African and Oceanian art showing a stiletto crossed out, because the heels scratched its wooden floors. He drew that shoe again and again. In 2020 the same building, the Palais de la Porte Dorée, opened a retrospective of his work, with a copy of the sign greeting its visitors.
