Campbell’s red-and-white label was inspired by a football uniform.
The condensed-soup cans launched in 1897 with orange-and-blue labels. A year later, executive Herberton Williams saw Cornell’s red-and-white football uniforms at a game, proposed those colors, and the can has worn them since 1898.
