Black & Decker’s pistol-grip trigger was copied from a weapon.
Working an electric drill in 1914 meant letting go with one hand to reach its switch. Duncan Black and Alonzo Decker fixed that by borrowing the grip and trigger of a Colt automatic, so one finger could start and stop the motor without loosening the hold. Their drill weighed 21.5 pounds, and the grip on every power tool since is that pistol’s.
