Ronald Wayne, an Atari engineer, signed Apple’s founding papers on April 1, 1976, alongside Jobs and Wozniak — and took a 10% stake. On April 12, nervous he’d be liable for the company’s debts, he sold it back for $800. Apple is now worth about $4.84 trillion.
