Android was designed for cameras before phones.
Andy Rubin’s team founded Android Inc. in 2003 to build software for digital cameras, so that cameras could talk to servers. When investors showed no interest, the team switched to phones. In 2005 Google bought Android for at least $50 million, before it had shipped a thing. Today Android runs about two-thirds of the world’s phones.
