Zara’s founder began by making housecoats and robes.
Amancio Ortega spent the 1960s in northwest Spain making housecoats, robes, and lingerie, learning to copy fashion fast and cheap. In 1975 he opened the first Zara and built it into Inditex, the world’s largest fashion retailer. The housecoat maker is now worth over $100 billion.
