Twitch emerged from a failed lifecasting experiment.
Justin.tv launched in 2007 as a platform for “lifecasting” — broadcasting your day online. Founder Justin Kan wore a head camera for six months. Most content was dull. One category worked — gaming. It rebranded the gaming section as Twitch in 2011 and sold it to Amazon for $970 million.
