Tabasco used cologne bottles before sauce bottles.
In the 1860s, on Avery Island, Louisiana, Edmund McIlhenny bottled his pepper sauce in small cologne bottles, cast-off ones for the first batches and new ones from a glassworks once he sold it. The sauce was far too strong to pour like ketchup, and the sprinkler top let out only a drop at a time. The company later made that its slogan, “One drop works wonders.”
