Sprite was advertised in the 1960s as a tart mixer “for adult tastes”.
Its ads paired it with vodka and rum. In 1986 Sprite became one of the first mainstream brands to put a rapper in a national TV ad. In a recording booth Kurtis Blow, 27, rapped that without lymon, Sprite’s made-up word for lemon and lime, it’s not happenin’, so sorry 7-Up.
