Slack’s founder turned the last $6 million of a dead game into $27.7 billion.
Stewart Butterfield’s company Tiny Speck spent years building an online game called Glitch. When it died in 2012, Butterfield offered to hand investor Ben Horowitz his $6 million back, or to sell the chat tool the team had built for itself. Horowitz shrugged — $6 million made no difference in his life. Nine years later, Salesforce paid $27.7 billion for that chat tool.
