Its pitch was “No Software” — business tools you’d run in a browser instead of installing from a disc. So in February 2000, Marc Benioff sent actors to picket rival Siebel’s conference with anti-software placards, a fake TV crew filming the scene. Today Salesforce takes in $41.5 billion a year.
