Saint Laurent’s tuxedo for women sold just one copy to its couture clients.
In 1966 Yves Saint Laurent cut a tuxedo for women. His couture clients snubbed it, and only one was sold. Women in trousers could still be turned away from fashionable restaurants, and in 1968 the socialite Nan Kempner, a Saint Laurent devotee, was refused at La Côte Basque in New York. She took them off and walked in.
